Testimonial from Bradford Bulls:

Bradford Bulls
JULY 2005

During the past eight weeks the medical staff at Bradford Bulls have been using the Zamar Advanced
Temperature System as an alternative to ice cubes and chemical ice packs.
Factors such as temperature difference between modality and body, treatment duration, treatment area,
tissue type and depth of injury were all taken into account to determine effectiveness.

A 1st team player that sustained thigh confusion during a match was treated with the Zamar machine on
day 0 to day 3 three times a day. The resulting haematoma four days later appeared to be substantially less
than those previously treated with ice cubes or chemical ice pack. The player returned to full contact
training with only mild discomfort and was extremely pleased at the speed of symptomatic relief.

During all three methods of application initial thermal capacity is similar but the Zamar machine can
maintain a constant temperature for much longer. This would suggest that the Zamar machine is more
successful at reducing the effect of secondary hypoxic injury than other methods.

It is the combination of compression and elevation that counteracts oedema, the Zamar machine’s
comprehensive cuff was more effective than elastic bandage and chemical ice pack or ice cube pack, also the
cuff cover provided a practical and effective barrier to protect the skin.

The medical team also found the mobility of the machine extremely helpful and it is now a regular feature
on away trips as well as travelling to various training locations.

This case study simply highlights an example of how the Zamar machine accelerated a player’s recovery.

"Having used the Zamar system for a number of weeks at both Wrexham and FAW training grounds, it was found to be very beneficial in the treatment of a great number of injuries. The recovery time from a quadriceps Haematoma (intermuscular) was greatly reduced enabling the player to return to training much sooner and be available for selection. Due to the easily controlled temperature choice players feel comfortable using the system."
